9 September 2011 - ItraMAS & SIRIM to Fuel Light Emitting Diode (LED) Drive In Malaysia.

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 6: ItraMAS Technology Sdn. Bhd is teaming up with SIRIM Bhd to jointly create an advanced composite material for thermal management system that will go into ItraMAS’s new series of products under our existing Q-RAY™ LED product line.

Both ItraMAS and SIRIM today signed a Memorandum of Understanding to pave the way for a detailed technical cooperation and joint product development for the green lighting technology sector.

Yang Berhormat Dato’ Sri Peter Chin Fah Kui, Minister of Energy, Green Technology and Water witnessed the signing of the agreement at KLCC, between Mr Lee Choo Boo, ItraMAS Group CEO and his SIRIM counterpart Dr. Hj. Zainal Abidin Mohd. Yusuf, acting President & Chief Executive.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Chairman of ItraMAS Group Datuk Khairuddin Ibrahim said the company was proud to partner with SIRIM, which has vast expertise and experience in composite material development and industrial design, amongst others.

"This collaboration is to leverage on both ItraMAS’s strength as one of the pioneering homegrown companies specializing in R&D of LED-based applications, such as LED lighting products, and SIRIM’s strength in its R&D on composite materials.

"Through this collaboration, we hope to create an advanced material for thermal management system that can be used by ItraMAS in the development of its next generation of Q-RAY™ LED lighting products," Datuk Khairuddin explained.

He said the new material will be locally produced; hence it will be cheaper, allowing ItraMAS to reduce the overall cost of LED lighting. This subsequently will help in the adoption of LED lighting not just for the local market but also overseas.

"The benefit to Malaysia is that the creation of this material will put it in-line with other developed countries in the R&D of material for use in green technology products, namely LED lighting," he added.

Datuk Khairuddin said as a home-grown company, ItraMAS wants to play its part in promoting the Government’s vision to make Malaysia a green nation.

"Indeed our Prime Minister’s declaration to cut carbon intensity in Malaysia by 40% is a bold move, yet achievable through diligent adoption of appropriate mechanisms,” he added.

Dr Zainal Abidin Mohd Yusof, Acting President & Chief Executive SIRIM Berhad, in his speech said that the opportunity to collaborate with ItraMAS Technology is timely as SIRIM aims to spur its technology further whilst helping the country gain a competitive edge in the LED lighting industry.

He also mentioned that under the MOU, SIRIM will cooperate through technology transfer and training, joint technology development, technical information and personnel exchange between both parties.

“With the expertise that we have acquired over the years, we are poised to contribute positively towards technology advancement at the international level through the global export of the next generation of Q-RAY™ LED products” he added.
